Toothpaste with fluoride – effective prevention of tooth decay
Using a toothpaste with fluoride is important for everyone as it can help prevent tooth decay.
When it comes to daily dental care, choosing the right toothpaste is crucial. Using a toothpaste with fluoride is important for people of all ages as it can help prevent tooth decay. In this blog, we explain what fluoride is, how it helps to fight tooth decay and which toothpaste with fluoride is best suited to your needs.
What is fluoride?
Fluoride is a naturally occurring element found in many minerals and rocks. It is often referred to as a “miracle mineral” as it can help to strengthen bones and teeth and prevent tooth decay. This property was first discovered in the 1930s.
Later, fluoride began to be added to toothpastes, which led to a sharp decline in tooth decay in the population. Fluoride is also used in other dental care products – such as mouthrinses or dental sticks – as it forms a protective layer around the teeth and prevents bacteria from attacking the enamel.
How can fluoride prevent tooth decay?
Caries occurs when acids produced by bacteria in the oral cavity attack the tooth enamel. If the enamel is damaged, bacteria can penetrate the inside of the tooth and cause an infection. Fluoride helps to prevent tooth decay by forming a protective layer around the teeth and strengthening the enamel. This is because fluoride can dissolve the ions needed from saliva to remineralize the enamel. This makes it more difficult for bacteria to attack it and cause tooth decay.
Why should you choose a toothpaste with fluoride?
Using a fluoride toothpaste is the cheapest and easiest caries prophylaxis available to us to keep our teeth healthy. Fluoride in toothpaste has many positive properties:
- Strengthens tooth enamel: Fluoride helps to strengthen tooth enamel and thus prevents tooth decay. This makes teeth healthier and more resistant to tooth decay.
- Antibacterial effect: Fluoride helps to reduce the formation of bacteria in your mouth. Using a toothpaste with fluoride slows down the growth of bacteria and effectively prevents tooth decay.
- Prevents gum disease: Fluoride can also help prevent gum disease by reducing bacteria that can cause infections.
- Inhibits plaque formation: When used regularly in the mouth, fluoride fights the build-up of plaque and thus also prevents tooth decay.
Which toothpaste with fluoride is right for me?
There is a large selection of toothpastes with fluoride. Depending on your needs and requirements, certain fluoride toothpastes are more suitable for you than others:
- TEBODONT-F: Contains tea tree oil and leaves no unpleasant aftertaste.
- EMOFORM Sensitive: Contains strengthening mineral salts and desensitizes and inhibits tooth sensitivity.
- EMOFORM Diamond: With whitening effect and suitable for people with sensitive teeth.
- EMOFORM Protect: All-rounder toothpaste for everyday use.
- EMOFLUOR Daily Care: With stabilized stannous fluoride for sensitive teeth.
- EMOFLUOR Twin Care: Double protection for sensitive teeth and tooth necks thanks to the combination of sodium and stannous fluoride and the peptide-based CUROLOX® technology.
It is also important for children to use toothpaste containing fluoride. Children’s toothpastes contain less fluoride than toothpastes for adult teeth. Depending on their age, children should use EMOFORM Kids or EMOFORM Youngstars.
Toothpaste containing fluoride: Our recommendation
Fluorides play an important role in the prevention of tooth decay and gum disease. For this reason, adults and children should use a toothpaste containing fluoride several times a day. However, children should use special children’s toothpastes that have a lower fluoride content.
To ensure good caries protection, adults can also use fluoride mouthwashes and dental sticks to round off their dental care perfectly.
